Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise's New Love Shack
by Dawn West dawn.west@interiordecoratingschools.net Interior Decorating Schools Columnist Anyone else notice Katie Holmes on the cover of last month's In Style Magazine touting her newfound happiness as a single gal in New York City? So much for that - the article was still on the rack at the supermarket and she'd already moved into Tom Cruise's L.A. mansion. The sanity/believability of their relationship aside, sooner or later most folks make the jump from solo space to shared space, or (no predictions for TomKat here) even shared space with kid, and successful shifts into coupledom are usually accompanied by successful shifts in interior design. If Mr. Cruise and Ms. Holmes are smart, here are a few interior design ideas they should consider. Couple Interior Design Idea #1. Make the Most of Your Storage Space. As a single guy perhaps Tom Cruise could get away a haphazard closet, but with Katie Holmes moving her lovely wardrobe into the mix, those days are gone. Two people equals twice the stuff. Coming up with an effective storage system, from the bedroom to the kitchen, will make sure that no one wants to break up over lost shoes or overflowing junk drawers.Couple Interior Design Idea #2. Find Gender Balance. It looked like Katie Holmes had a pretty cute, girly-looking place back in New York before she abandoned it for her newfound photo op, I mean love. Alas, the beauty of frills is sometimes lost on men. And I'll put it out there that none of my girlfriends like manly staples like Pamela Anderson posters or leather pillows. Making sure that everyone feels at home by choosing an interior design scheme that doesn't scream "a single man/woman lives here" is key to happy coupled living.Couple Interior Design Idea #3. Mix It Up for the Sake of Mixing It Up.Even if Katie Holmes doesn't mind them, Tom Cruise should consider moving around some of his scientology pamphlets…and furniture. Redoing an interior is a great way to signal a fresh start. It's true even for the non-coupled. Want to signal the fresh start of your new life with yourself -- paint something.Posted on June 23, 2005 at 05:42 PM |
