While it may be more expensive than other materials initially, many people find the addition of natural stone like granite, marble, or slate, adds timeless beauty and distinction to the interior design of new and existing homes.

Stone Choices

If you're considering using stone in your next interior design project, you have many options to choose from. Here's a look at three popular choices:
  • Granite: Currently very popular in kitchen interior design, granite is resistant to chemicals, heat and cold. Granite may be used for countertops and floors. Some experts recommend applying a sealer to prevent staining.
  • Slate: Very durable, and less expensive and less formal in appearance than granite or marble, slate may be used for floors, hearths, fireplaces, backsplashes, countertops, and patios. Slate comes in many colors, and can be found at tile stores, home improvement centers, or stone yards.
  • Marble: Hardwearing and beautiful, marble may be used for countertops, floors, backsplashes, window sills, hearths, and fireplaces. Marble comes in many colors and is a favorite element in bathroom interior design. Marble is heavy and hard to lay, and therefore expensive.

Great Reasons to Choose Stone

One big advantage of stone is its ease of maintenance. Floors only need to be dust mopped frequently to remove dirt or sand that can damage the surface of the stone. A mild cleaner or plain water will clean both counters and floors.

Stone's many uses make it versatile as well as beautiful. The next time you're looking for big impact, consider bringing stone home.
