Will Your Interior Design Training Prepare You For Star Wars?
by Lance Filbert
Interior Design Columnist Do your living quarters look like the Skywalkers' apartment in Star Wars, or are they more like one of the cells in The Longest Yard? Your interior design education should prepare you for working with both possibilities. In the midst of everyone cheering the hero, hissing the villain, and shedding tears for the abandoned wife in the latest Star Wars flick, all my interior design training had me studying the living spaces. I couldn't help but wonder about such important issues as "where do they put all their stuff?" and "does Anakin ever drop his dirty socks on the floor?" Technology is making a big difference in the way people see their homes. The world is changing, and it’s likely that the whole concept of interior design and interior design education will change with it. Who knows, but the interior design careers of the future might include training on decorating weightless rooms. Going With the FlowThe bigger question is not so much how the interior design schools of the future will change, but how the designers will adapt to the different conditions. One answer is that they will go with the flow. That's what professional designers have always done. They listen to the clients and absorb the world they live in. Throw in a good measure of personal creativity, some practicality, and a touch of available accessories, and they can come up with a design for almost anything. Are you ready for an interior design career in the 21st century?About the AuthorLance Filbert is known for his witty and innovative design ideas.
